In short

Can Perspicax detect Seedream images?

Yes. Perspicax caught 91.0–98.9% of Seedream images in testing, across Seedream 4.5, 5.0 Pro and 5.0 Lite. Seedream is ByteDance's image model, behind Doubao, Dreamina and CapCut. Its labels depend on the app and are lost on re-upload, and it carries no SynthID, so Perspicax checks the pixels.

Where these images come from

Seedream makes images in ByteDance's Doubao and Jimeng (Dreamina) apps and in CapCut, where paying subscribers in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, South America and the US can use it. Developers reach it through BytePlus ModelArk and Volcano Engine.

Labels and watermarks

CapCut and Dreamina add an invisible watermark, Content Credentials (C2PA) and a visible AI label. Through the API, the visible "AI generated" mark can be switched off. ByteDance does not use SynthID. In China the rules require visible and hidden labels, but the hidden metadata label is unsigned and easy to strip.

How it works

Questions about Seedream images

Which apps use Seedream?

ByteDance's Doubao and Dreamina (Jimeng) apps, CapCut for paying subscribers in many regions, and the BytePlus ModelArk and Volcano Engine APIs.

Do Seedream images carry a label?

It depends on the app. CapCut and Dreamina add Content Credentials, an invisible watermark and a visible label; API users can turn the visible mark off. Re-uploads usually strip the file labels.

Does SynthID work on Seedream images?

No. ByteDance doesn't use SynthID, so Google's SynthID tools won't find anything. Perspicax reads Content Credentials when they are present and checks the pixels.

Which Seedream model is hardest to detect?

In our tests, Seedream 5.0 Lite: 91.0% caught, against 96.7% for Seedream 5.0 Pro and 98.9% for Seedream 4.5.
