In short

Can Perspicax detect Gemini images?

Yes. Perspicax caught 93.6–98.3% of Gemini images in testing, across Nano Banana Pro, Nano Banana 2.1 and Imagen 4. Google signs many of these files with Content Credentials and always adds a SynthID watermark, but one re-save removes the signed label. Perspicax reads the label when it is there and the pixels every time.

Where these images come from

Google's Nano Banana models make the images in the Gemini app, and also in AI Mode in Search, AI Studio, Flow and Google Ads. Imagen 4 reached people through the Gemini API and Vertex AI.

Labels and watermarks

Every image gets SynthID, Google's invisible watermark. Nano Banana Pro images also carry Content Credentials (C2PA) in the Gemini app, Vertex AI and Google Ads. Since August 2026 people can hide the visible sparkle; SynthID and C2PA stay. We made a photo with Google's model ourselves, and one re-save erased its signed label.

Worth knowing

Google's own checkers, the SynthID portal and the Gemini app, look for its watermark only. Perspicax checks any photo, reads Content Credentials and supports SynthID checks.

How it works

Questions about Gemini images

Does Gemini add a watermark to its images?

Yes. Every image from Google's models carries SynthID, an invisible watermark, and Nano Banana Pro images in the Gemini app also carry Content Credentials. The visible sparkle is optional.

Is the Gemini sparkle enough to spot an AI image?

No. Since August 2026 people can turn the sparkle off, and a crop removes it anyway. Perspicax reads Content Credentials and checks the pixels.

Which Gemini model is hardest to detect?

In our tests, Nano Banana Pro: 93.6% caught, against 95.0% for Nano Banana 2.1 and 98.3% for Imagen 4.

Can Google's own tools check Gemini images?

Yes, for Google's watermark: the SynthID portal and the Gemini app look for SynthID. They are not built to detect images from other companies' models.
